Getting to the Ulex Centre in Eroles

PLEASE NOTE: We also hold courses in venues other than our own. This is indicated at the bottom of the info page for each course, and we will send you specific travel guidance once your place is confirmed on a course.

If you come by public transport we will usually arrange to collect you from Tremp, the nearest town, around 18.30 on the day the course begins. We will pick you up at Tremp train station (which is also where the bus stops). For most people, this means being in Barcelona before 13.00hrs that day to make connections.

Sometimes events will be held at the Abella site of our partner centre, in which case you will need to get off the bus in Isona (usually around 18:00), a couple of stops before Tremp. We will collect you from there.

Most people who visit Ulex from across Europe travel by land when possible, passing through Barcelona on the way. We all know that avoiding short-haul flights can considerably reduce the environmental impact of a journey. It can also provide a richer experience of moving from one place to another, allowing valuable time for reflection and adjustment. As a project supporting pan-European solidarity we obviously want to encourage solidarity with the ecosystem that all of our lives depend on.

Some of the websites below can help you find good land routes. Planning well ahead helps to make train travel more economically viable. We also appreciate that personal mobility and other constraints mean that this is not always an option. Although carbon offsetting is not a solution to the effects of flying on the climate, if you are going to fly to Spain then please consider this Carbon Offsetting Project.

There are various options for overland travel:

    By Rail:

Rail journeys within Europe can be booked on the RailEurope website. Booking well in advance can make it much cheaper. Aim for Barcelona, from where it is often easiest to take the bus.

    By Coach:

Traveling by coach can take a little longer but is generally cheaper than the train. You can travel by coach all over Europe with Eurolines. Again, Barcelona is usually the main hub. From there take the regional bus.

    By Road:

Put “Tremp” into a map app and go! Hitchwiki is a very useful resource if you are considering hitchhiking.

    Via Barcelona:

Barcelona is the main transport hub to reach the Ulex Centre. From there bus and train connections are easy.

By Bus: Bus from Barcelona: we recommend the 14.30 bus to La Pobla de Segur from Estacion del Nord bus station (Arc de Triomf Metro). Arrives in Tremp just after 18.00hrs. Queues for tickets can be very long (upstairs). It is generally better to use the automatic machines. There are several of these outside on the ground floor where the bus stops are situated. Additional times and info: www.alsa.es

By train: Travelling to us by train from Barcelona will take you through Lleida. Barcelona to LLeida train times are best found at www.renfe.com

    Via Lleida

Bus from LLeida: Runs several times each day. Check www.alsa.es for details

Train from Lleida: Lleida is a major city and has rail connections from across Spain. From Barcelona there are several trains each day to LLeida. For Spanish rail connections check out www.renfe.com From there you need to take the local service Lleida-La Pobla de Segur, and get off at Tremp. It is a slow and infrequent service, but a truly stunning route through the gorges of Camarasa and Terradets. The times vary from year to year. In the summer there are as many as four trains each day. In the winter this can reduce to as few as two trains each day (one early morning and one mid-afternoon). For details of the Lleida-Tremp train check out http://lleidalapobla.fgc.cat/linies-i-horaris

PLEASE REMEMBER: We also hold courses in venues other than our own. This is indicated at the bottom of the info page for each course, and we will send you specific travel guidance once your place is confirmed on a course.
